The First Edition of the Spin-Off Academy a Success

March 27, 2026

Five intensive days, more than 30 sessions, and over 20 researchers embarking on a journey from the lab to launching their own company. This was the first edition of the Spin-Off Academy, held in Prague from March 23 to 27.

The event was co-organized by CATEN co-founder Filip Fingl. “We believe this is where companies are born that can one day move our society forward. At CATEN, we have long supported the connection between cutting-edge science and real-world application. That is why initiatives like this make perfect sense to us, and we are proud to be part of them,” he said.

A key focus of the academy was hands-on work on participants’ own projects under the guidance of experienced mentors. As the organizers explained: “We primarily targeted applicants who already had a specific technology or project, although this was not a requirement. If someone was motivated to learn how to build a spin-off but did not yet have a concrete idea, we still found a way to support them. This year’s edition focused mainly on domain-specific areas.”
